The purpose of the NW GA Progressive Democrats is three-fold:
1. To REVITALIZE the Real Democrats that actually do exist in NW Georgia; To awaken their sense of PRIDE in our values and accomplishments; to help them to “come out of hiding” and make their presence seen, heard, and felt in local, state and national politics again.
2. To ENGAGE the majority of citizens in NW Georgia who do not participate in the political process by showing WHY it matters for them to be involved; this includes getting them informed, registered, and to the polls on Election Day.
3. To ORGANIZE the Real Democrats of NW Georgia at every level (neighborhood, precinct, county, state house district, state senate district, and congressional district) so that we can effectively recruit and support (both physically and financially) candidates who will honestly represent the PEOPLE in the way the Democratic Party has historically stood for their interests and concerns.
4. To FIGHT FOR VERIFIED VOTING. Unless we can be certain of honesty and fairness in the election process, we cannot be certain that any of our efforts will matter.
“Those who cast the votes decide nothing.
Those who count the votes decide everything.”
- Joseph Stalin
A Distinct Entity
Why are we working as a separate organization from the "official" Party?
First, we can serve as a coordinated effort between the four county committees which comprise the GA Senate District 53, presently in the hands of Jeff Mullis. This has been chosen as our range of focus while we work to rebuild the Party and field candidates for 2006.
Secondly, a non-affiliated group has the freedom to support candidates at the Primary level in the election process. This should, in normal times and places, be an utterly moot point. However, in the age of the “Zell Miller Democrat”, sometimes there has been very little difference – very little choice for the voters – between Republican and Democratic candidates. We want to be in the position to support the people who best stand for our traditional Democratic values, who will best represent the hard-working majority of citizens in NW Georgia. We want you to know who will work for all of us, and then enlist your support for them. We want to send Real Democrats into the General Elections in 2006.
Contrary to the myth that the Democrat is almost extinct in NW Georgia, we are ready to stand up and show everyone we intend to make our voices heard by our representatives, at every level of political office.
